The Brotherhood of Senhor Bom Jesus de Cuiabá: symbols and images

Abstract

This article analyzes the emergence of the Brotherhood of Senhor Bom Jesus de Cuiabá,symbol and image, reinforces the characterization as a representative space of the Cuiabá elite,of whites and wealthy, and excludes blacks, freedmen and browns, vetoes their entries,guaranteeing for themselves the political exercise within the Brotherhood. The objective is toanalyze the books produced by the Brotherhood, as they constitute the basis of control, powerand domination, aiming at the very survival of the Entity. The methodology used wasbibliographic and documentary research, qualitative‒descriptive analysis in journals and thepublication of authors who discuss the Brotherhoods in Mato Grosso.
