DISCIPLINA: UMA LEITURA EM VIGIAR E PUNIR
Keywords:
Disciplinary power, School, PanoptismAbstract
From reading Vigiar e Punir, this paper aims to present a historical analysis of the concept of “discipline”, from the perspective of the French philosopher Michel Foucault. To this end, it analyzes the specific devices of disciplinary power: hierarchical surveillance, normalizing sanction and examination. Theoretically, it shows the displacements and techniques of disciplinary power in the 17th and 18th centuries, reflections and considerations. It presents the Panopticon in which the relation of power is of constant subjection of the individual and demonstrates that panoptism constitutes a power that produces knowledge that regulates the lives of individuals. From such considerations, it remains to be seen, after a historical analysis, how Foucault's thinking can help us understand the mechanisms of disciplinary power in school.
