This study analyzes the short story Mágoa de Vaqueiro (1917), by Hugo de Carvalho Ramos,
through the intersection of interculturality, social inclusion, and literature. Set in the Brazilian
sertão, the narrative reveals dynamics of belonging, social exclusion, and cultural resistance.
Employing a qualitative approach and literary hermeneutics, the research identifies symbolic
elements that reflect the social and cultural relations of both the period and the present. It is
based on the works of Antonio Candido, Clifford Geertz, Laurence Bardin, and Homi Bhabha,
seeking to understand the role of regionalist literature in the construction of identity and
intercultural dialogue.
