In 2001, UNESCO began creating a list and defining Intangible Cultural Heritage to encouragedirect community involvement in documenting, identifying, protecting, promoting, and revitalizingit.Simultaneously, in each country and region (like Spain), numerous classifications sometimeshinder rather than help, causing conflicts among stakeholders and leading to duplicatedsafeguards for the same heritage. This forces communities to adapt their celebrations based onadministrative law, altering their essence.Communication studies the interplay between identity and tourism in officially recognizedpopular traditions in Spain, where they've evolved into tourism products, often promoted withoutconsidering the originating communities.
