MONTAIGNE: TEÓRICO DA RAZÃO DE ESTADO?

Abstract

Based on Montaigne’s essay Of profit and honesty, this article seeks to understands the relation established by the author between the profit and honesty of human action and its relations with political sphere. The discussion proposed by Montaigne allows us to approach it with the discussions introduced by the theorists of state reason into political thought, especially by Machiavelli. To this aim, we will present a brief exposition of Montaigne’s essay as well as a definition of the concept of state reason. Finally, we will approach Montaigne’s reflection with Machiavelli’s thought.
