Abstract

A reflection on the possible relations of culture is presented in an essayistic way as a superstructure not entirely determined, but at the mercy of dialectical relations that it establishes with its base. Cultural materialism or Marxist analysis of culture
restores the link lost by deterministic interpretations of Marxism, by resuming the dialectical relationship between the forces that constitute a given totality. I point out reflections by Raymond Williams (1921-1988), in which cultural materialism presents
itself as a possibility to straighten up Marxism with a deterministic basis and determined superstructure. I return to this author at the same time as a “reference system” that accounts for the transformations of the society that approached Marx (1818-1883). I
contextualize a history of the Marxisms that followed from the 19th century to here. What is perceived in the observation of this object in the course of its historical movement, unfolds in an attempt to situate culture, education and the school as if
transiting between the base and the superstructure, what I call here the 'dialectical link' that gives sews what was never actually split, except in ideologies. Finally, I signal problematize about a certain convergence of analyzes between cultural materialism
and Pierre Bourdieu's praxiology or theory of practice (1930-2002), where the dialectic
