REGÊNCIA DO VERBO “ASSISTIR” NO SENTIDO DE “VER”, PRESENCIAR”: norma e uso em confronto
Keywords:
traditional grammar, descriptive grammar, verb to attendAbstract
This study examines and compares the divergences between traditional grammar and descriptive grammar, aiming to showcase these two language study approaches. It defines verbal government, considering both conventional definitions and those more linguistically oriented. The discussion focuses on specific aspects of the verb “assistir” (to watch, to attend), comparing its usage in spoken and written language. Data collection involves interviews for the first aspect and text production for the second. The main findings are as follows: a) Among the surveyed groups, only a minority use the preposition with the verb, both in oral and written contexts; b) A process of relativization between these two perspectives is necessary; c) Portuguese language teachers should consider these facts and seek diverse resources that highlight the language’s specificities.
